It's my birthday, today.
A creature almost fey
Riding on the shoulders
Of the flowery month of May,
I ask, alone,
Where the time has gone.
The year raced by at a fevered pitch.
It hasn't seemed so long
Since my last birthday
Knocked upon my door,
As if to say,
"Come dance with me once more
And revel in the falling rain
Or the warming rays of sunlight,
As a child of spring."
It's my birthday, today.
My loved ones gathered 'round me.
In each of their faces
I can see
Days gone, and days before.
A woman, who is good and kind,
My mother,
Whose face is lined
With the beauty of a life lived fully.
In my daughters and my son--
Their very precious prescence a cherished miracle--
I see the exuberance and fun
That I remember from my younger days,
That I enjoyed myself only yesterday,
As a child of spring.
It's my birthday, today.
Some woud say a year older,
Yet only yesterday, I was a year younger.
In that moment's passing, I just became bolder,
And age has become meaningless to me.
Simply another milestone
To mark my passage, on the journey I began
When I came from the womb.
Sipping at the nectar, feeding on the ambrosia,
I take that road with pride,
With my traveling companion,
The man walking at my side,
There to lighten my path
As I brighten his,
As a child of spring.
